Classic Homemade Strawberry Shortcake

A delicious and classic dessert perfect for summer gatherings, featuring fresh strawberries and fluffy cake.

  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix sliced strawberries with 2 tablespoons of sugar and let sit.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining sugar.
  4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add milk gradually, mixing until dough forms.
  6. Pour dough into a greased baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. While cake is baking, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  8. Once cake has cooled, cut it in half and layer with strawberries and whipped cream.
  9. Top with the other half of the cake and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can include a splash of vanilla extract in the whipped cream.
  • Allow strawberries to soak in sugar for at least 30 minutes for enhanced sweetness.
