Otai (watermelon drink)

Otai is a traditional Samoan drink that’s wonderfully refreshing and perfect for hot summer days, made primarily with watermelon and coconut.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups watermelon, cubed
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup water (optional, for thinning)

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the watermelon and coconut milk and blend until smooth.
  2. Add sugar, pineapple juice, lime juice, and mix well.
  3. If desired, add water to reach your desired consistency and blend again.
  4. Chill the drink in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  5. Serve over ice and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a tropical twist, add a splash of orange juice.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar.
